Default Nease High School IB program

To apply for the 9th grade Pre-IB program the student must submit an application by the deadline date and provide the required documentation. Each area that is required is assigned a point value. Points will be awarded and totaled. Students will be ranked by total points and we will admit students off of this list for the available seats.
Prerequisite: Algebra I Honors
8th grade report card - 10pts
Points will be awarded for English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and one elective grade, excluding PE and Health. Each “A” is awarded 2 pts and each “B” is 1pt.
Recommendations - 10pts
These letters need to be from your English, Math, Science, & Soc Studies teachers. We will be looking for their opinion on your work ethic, dedication, responsiblity, and character.
Essay - 10pts
One of our Pre-IB English teachers will be reading all of these essays and will be scoring them based on content and structure using the Florida Writes rubric.
Test Scores - 20pts
Math and Reading scores will be used. Points will be awarded as follows:
FCAT Math: Level 5-10 pts,
Level 4-5 pts
FCAT Reading: Level 5-10pts,
Level 4-5pts
Norm-referenced Math & Reading:
stanines of 9 - 10pts,
stanines of 8 - 5pts

What is IB?
The International Baccalaureate program is a rigorous, two-year, pre-university liberal arts course of study that meets the needs of highly motivated and academically oriented secondary students. Designed as an interdisciplinary curriculum, the IB program allows the student to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical and experimental situations. Additionally, the IB program attempts to provide students with the academic training that will promote their intellectual and personal development.

IB Course of Study
11th grade
English III IB
PreCalculus, AP Statistics, or AP Calc AB
AP Biology, AP Chemistry, or AP Physics
AP US History
Spanish III IB or French III IB
IB Elective: Art, Drama, Psychology, or Music
1 Elective of choice
12th grade
AP/IB English
AP Statistics, AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC
Chemestry III, Biology III, Physics II
History of the Americas
Spanish IV or French IV
Theory of Knowledge, Higher Level Electives
To Earn The IB Diploma
1) Students must take six exams in the following areas to score a total of 24 points. The exams are scored on a 1-7 scale.
Language A (English)
Language B (Spanish or French)
Individual Societies
Science (Biology, Chem, or Physics)
Elective (Art, Music, Psychology,
Theatre Arts)
2) Write a 4,000 word essay
3) Complete 150 hourse of Creativity Action and Service (CAS) hours
4) Complete a Theory of Knowledge course
Pre-IB Course of Study
9th grade
English I Pre-IB
Geometry Honors or Algebra II Honors
Biology Honors
World History Honors
Spanish I or French I
2 Electives of choice
10th grade
English II Pre-IB
Algebra II Honors or Math Analysis
Chemistry Pre-IB
AP Government
Spanish II or French II
2 Electives of choice
At the end of the sophomore year students apply and are admitted into the IB program based on academic success in the Pre-IB program. In September of their Junior year students participate in a “Pinning Ceremony” to mark their entrance into the IB program.
