Default McAfee Common Framework returned error ffffffdf @3

ERROR: McAfee Common Framework returned error ffffffdf @3 (OLE32.DLL not registered with Nero AG)
- Failed to update VirusScan Definition file

Possible Error Types:
McAfee Common Framework returned error ffffffdf @ 3 (OLE32.DLL not registered with Nero AG)


Failed to initialize common updater subsystem


Make sure the McAfee Framework Services is running


VirusScan AutoUpdate Properties - AutoUpdate


The above errors are reported in a popup error after instigating an AutoUpdate


Failed to connect to CMA updater (from IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx user running VirusScan EntSv 8.0.o UPD)


Messenger Service


The above errors are reported in second popup error


The error occurs when attempting to do an AutoUpdate when:
  • Right-clicking on McShield icon in the systray and selecting Update Now
  • Right-clicking on AutoUpdate in the VirusScan Console and clicking start
  • Creating a new scheduled task

Description: VirusScan Enterprise: Failed to connect to CMA updater. (from IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx user running VirusScan EntSv 8.0.o UPD)

Windows System log reports:
Source: Application Popup
Event ID: 24
Description: Application Popup: Messenger Service :Message from to mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss
Failed to connect to CMA updater. (from IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx user running VirusScan EntSv 8.0.o UPD)
Re-Register the OLE32.DLL to Re-Populate the Registry
To re-register the OLE32.DLL:
  1. Click Start, Run and in the Open field type:
    CMD
  2. In the command window type:
    Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll
  3. A RegSvr32 popup error states: "DllRegisterServer in C:\WINNT\System32\ole32.dll succeeded"
  4. Click OK.

A registry key has been deleted when the Nero AG /Nero 7 product is uninstalled. This registry key is used by other applications but it affects the McAfee VirusScan update process.
Missing Key: [HKEY_CLASS_ROOT\Interface\{0000000C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]
